Hi, my name is Gerda. I am Dutch, but lived most of my life in Belgium.
In 2000 our only daughter got married and my husband sold his business: we were free to travel around the world.
I applied for the external service and we spend the year 2001 in Thessaloniki, Greece. With mixed feelings.
2002 was back to Headquarters, in Brussels.
Then we went to Damascus, Syria, from 2003 to 2007. We had a wonderful time in a historical, exotic city surrounded by extremely hospitable people. I made some beautiful pictures of minarets, old houses, people etc.
After 4 years it was time again to move.
This time to Lusaka, Zambia; the complete opposite of the cultural city of Damascus.
Here the inspiration comes from nature: beautiful trees, bushes, flowers and animals.
It is a pity that I didn't know about blipfoto until just recently (thank you Heli!)
My nickname in the family is Oma Kodak (Grandma Kodak) because I always have my camera with me.
But I am only an amateur. Blipfoto helps me to focus better and I am sure my skills will improve day by day.
Let's see a year from now....
July 2011 - leaving Zambia to take up a new posting in Moldova on 1 September. Totally unknown to me - challenging times ahead...
