Cheeky pukeko!

Went to my duck pond after work for a wander and a duckling shoot but I found very few duckings :(

I hope they're just 'away' from these parts for the time being - life must be pretty precarious when you're only a few centimetres tall and can't move very quickly on land.

This pukeko was getting very confident though. They're normally birds that are more than a little nervous when humans are around, but this chap was very cheekily coming up quite close to me in his hunt for crumbs. I guess it won't be too long until we start to see some of his offspring hanging out in the reeds.

I see Mr/s Pukeko featured around this time last year too....
