September 2018

I started on Blip on January 10, 2010 thanks to a suggestion by Pilipo and Connections. For quite a few years I blipped nearly every day. Now I am being more relaxed about taking a daily photo. I also have done quite a bit of back blipping so that I could look at my lifetime before I joined Blipfoto. I got back as far as 2005 and have more to do when I get some time and am in the mood.

In the beginning my journal was more about my photographs and less about my life. I took many photos of the beautiful Pacific Northwestern part of the US where I live and of the birds and animals that live here.

In 2013 my life changed and I became a care giver. My husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and we faced that life together. While I was caring for Arvin my journal became the story of our journey together as he slowly lost himself to Alzheimer's. I cared for him at home until January 2017 when I placed him in a memory care facility called Silverado. They took very good care of him for the four months he lived there. On Mother's Day, May 14, 2017, Arvin passed away. It was much sooner than I expected. And I knew it was a good thing. The quality of his life had deteriorated and it was a relief to know he was free and so was I and the rest of the family.

I am so proud and respectful of Arvin for the impeccable way he handled his disease. For most of the time he remained his sweet, loving, unselfish and wonderful self. He never stopped loving his family and friends. He was my soul mate and best friend and I will miss him always. But I am glad and relieved that his suffering is over and he is no longer losing himself to that awful disease.

In August 2017 I moved to a small house-like condo. The big house had been a burden for some time and I was happy to find the perfect place. I had a big estate sale, moved the things I kept, and settled into a new kind of life living on my own. I found that I was happy doing that and made plans to travel on my own to Africa in 2018.

Just when you think things are not changing anymore, something happens. This time it was something wonderful. I joined a group that takes a bus down to Seattle to the symphony. In December a couple asked if their friend Shelly could sit by me. "Sure," I said. Little did I know that we would quickly become attracted to each other and find so many things we have in common. Over the next couple of months we began to date and now we are a couple. Never did I expect that in a million years and I am so glad it has happened. So is Shelly. Recently he joined Blipfoto and is blipping away as AbeloneShel

I am an artist and show my work in the city where I live. I paint in oils and really enjoy making a blank canvas become a new world. You can see my paintings at http://www.annchaikin.com/. You can also see more photos on my blog, Chaikins of Bellingham and on my Flickr site.
