As far back as I can remember I have been strongly connected to the natural world around me. What draws me to photography is the ability to capture that one moment in time, fleeting and lost if not captured exactly then.

I create when I feel a connection to the subject matter and allow this emotion to dictate how the image is represented. I walk on both sides of the abstract image following form, color, and curves and yet still feel a strong pull to stark imagery. Soft focus, high key, and long exposure go a long ways in capturing the essence of the subject.

Monochromatic and limited color palettes dominate my work and I have been greatly inspired by the work of Alfred Stieglitz, Richard Avedon, and Michael Kenna.

I shoot digital with a Nikon D7000 and medium format film with a 1950's Yashica D TLR and an even earlier vintage Zeiss Nettar. In a world that moves ever increasingly more quickly, shooting film has for me the effect of slowing things down and ensuring that I am being thoughtful and precise about what I shoot.
I try to always remember that this in my journal and it must reflect the images that are compelling to me. If they should resonate with someone else...all the better but like other forms of art, create what you love.
I don't always find the time to comment on all of the journals to which I subscribe but I always find time to look.
I am a lover of nature and dogs of all kinds,  I dance with mountains, and kayak when the waters thaw.
I was introduced to Blip by Farmfresh.
