I used to feel like an alien on this planet, not quite fitting. Now I realise I'm on the right planet but surrounded by aliens. I love beauty and nature and harmony but fascinated by the apparent randomness left by human activity. We leave a discarded legacy of our lives, overlooked and filtered out by most. They take the form of faded, abandoned and washed up artifacts and detritus; abandoned buildings, advertisings and grafitti. Edgelands is a book I read recently that focusses on the areas that humans have created inadvertantly by abandonment or lack of interest. The overlooked, forgotten and forsaken. I intend to find the beauty and fascination of the edgelands, seeking out the mundane as a source of visual pleasure or amusement.
