Not every day

Underneath the arch(es)

My contribution to this week's theme. Two nights earlier I'd been walking back through Avenham Park with a friend after dark, and he stopped under this bridge to shout and hear the magnificent echo. I recalled the scene in Cabaret where Liza Minelli shows Michael York how she loves to go under the railway bridge near her Berlin apartment and scream at the top of her voice as the train passes overhead. Never possible here - this bridge carries the long-abandoned East Lancs line. Today it was bright and sunny, and the bridge frames a view of the Ribble footpath. The chestnut tree leaning at a Pisan angle is a sole survivor from a magnificent avenue which had to be felled a year ago. From the look af it, not for long.
