GODWITS REMAIN

I had three pics in todays BLIPFILE - two Godwit pics and one of an Earthquake munted tern Rookery. I went for a Godwit picture as I think its more positive!

The thing is - I went to Auckland for some R&R and was fortunate enough to be taken to MIRANDA which is in the Firth of Thames and is the return venue for the now famous ' E7' the Godwit who was electronically tagged and returned from his epic journey to Siberia and back. For those who dont know it took him 12 days to get to MIRANDA from Siberia without stopping for food or water - Non-stop at around an av of 70KPH. E7 of course is only 1 of hundreds of birds who do this annual journey.

The MIRANDA trust do a great job representing the needs of these birds as they progress the flyways - these - so often nowdays being taken over for Commerce in the countries they pass. The birds travel across land whose inhabitants represent 40% o the worlds population. The birds progress is becoming more difficult each year.
Our birds have gone now to Siberia but a few juveniles remain - these are 3 of them.
