Big ships

I had a surprise for the boys today. It was a trip down to see two ships that look reminiscent of pirate ships...well at least to two little boys.

They had no idea what I was up to until we went to the bank to pick up some pirate coins. The bank has gold dollars, and they are amazing. There is so much detail on each down to a bit of Latin along the edges.

Of course they were instantly excited and couldn't wait to get to the dock to see the ships. As we pulled up, it was all "ooooh" and "aaahhh" from the back seat. We got out and headed down to the ships. The boys dropped their "pirate" coins into the donation box and headed aboard. Both ships were really lovely. What an experience to be able to sail in the open seas in such history. The crew were great, and my oldest kept trying to get them to invite him to the galley.

It was tough to get many shots, but I did manage this quickie of the giant compass. The boys were both really fascinated with it. The weather went sour immediately. Hail, rain and wind began belting us from all angles. We were completely soaked (along with my camera) by the time we reached our van. I figured that deserved some hot chocolate for the boys and a chai latte for me.

The weather has been really poor for so long now. It is colder than usual, and we are getting hail nearly every day. Our power bill is beyond acceptable. It's frustrating. A check of the weather online, and we aren't to see sun for at least another 10 days. Ugh.
