Trinity Church

Day 2 of our trip to the big game. We stayed with our daughter in Hitchin and met her for lunch in the old part of Stevenage after which we had a wander round the old and new town. Both very different. There was plenty to see there and this old church built in the early 1880s was well worth a visit. I was fascinated by the amount of flint used in the building of the church which was was very beautiful inside and out.
The clock which you see on the outer wall is worked by the mechanism of the large floor standing clock inside and has been keeping time since 1886.

The new town of Stevenage , the building of which which began in 1946 and the first part completed in 1946 had a few hidden gems in the concrete blocks of the town centre. I particularly loved the Mother and Child sculpture and was disappointed to miss out on a visit inside the modern cathedral as we got there after closing time. never mind we can always go back next time we are down.
