The Edge of the Wold

A special pipit

Today I collected our hire car, and we were able to escape into the mountains. We spent the afternoon in the enormous caldera that the area is famous for. Late on, the light was better and there were few other people about. The birds were more confiding, including this little pipit. Bertholet's pipit is found nowhere on the European mainland, and hence is one of the real specialties of the area we were visiting.

I may replace this in a couple of days with a photo to show the caldera, but in the meantime there are plenty of hints so far to say where we were.
