Ferrari 250 GTO

"La Bella Machina" the Italians call it. I call it the most perfect not to mention the most beautiful racing car ever made. The Ferrari 250 GTO won the World GT Car Championship for three straight years from 1962 to 1964. With its beautiful 12 cylinder engine, it sold for 18,000 dollars when new, if you could buy one. The price was in line with a good Rolls Royce of the time but the fact that only 36 were ever made to the original specification meant that the ordinary punter was very unlikely to lay hands on one. Last year, DJ Chris Evans bought one for twelve million pounds sterling. It is reputed that a few years ago one went for 28.5 million dollars in a private and rather secret sale.

Of the original 36, I know for a fact that one was destroyed in a racing accident but that may have been two. So there are, at best. 35 left and this is my one. What a pity it's only 1/24th scale.

Many thanks for all your good wishes for my Dad yesterday. He had a good night but unfortunately took a turn for the worse at breakfast time and had to be put back on oxygen and hooked back up to drugs for the heart. He has settled down again today and is comfortable. We shall be visiting him tomorrow but the doctors are only allowing visitors for 15 minutes at a time and only when he is feeling strong.
