Bluebell wood

Fred and I headed out on our bicycles to cycle from Horsham to Amberley over the South Downs. Bluebells bloomed on either side of the road and there were lots of old trees. The narrow roads, called exciting names such as Dragon's Green Road and Smock Alley, were blissfully quiet. The Sunday drivers must avoid this area, or perhaps we were far enough away from London. This area looked very moneyed - some of the homes are amazing!

The best moment of the ride came after going up (read 'walking up') the steep South Downs and seeing Fred (who cycled up) chatting to a lady attending a tea and cake emporium at the top of the hill. Brilliant! It was like a mirage. We had delicious tea and cake, then rode the ridge of the South Downs down to Amberley. We spied young, springy calfs and lambs, and lots of birds of prey. The views were wonderful, too.
