Die Raupe

Which is German for "the Caterpillar".

Spotted this little chap/pess (I find myself unable to sex caterpillars*) while out for a walk today and as is the way with things that cross my path I took a couple of speculative shots of the little blighter.

I think it's rather a handsome creature.

While out walking we found what has to be the biggest ant's nest I've ever seen - it must have been all of 15 meters long and about 1 and a half meters tall. All of it covered in scurrying ants of varying sizes. Of course, pictures were taken but they just don't do justice to scale. Plus ants seem to regard all entreaties to "just stand still for a minute" as a bit of a joke.

Still it was another beautiful day - I've been told that this has been an exceptional spring. I've been enjoying all of it.

*Another interview question that stumps me every time.
