Thistle Down

By Ethel

Grandmas

Grandmas...shouldn't have to work,
But play with kids.
Only should they fix a thing,
And screw on lids.

They should only need to do,
What every woman loves.
To cuddle up so sweetly,
To their...turtle doves.

Only should they spread,
A piece of oven bread.
With rosy little mountains,
Of jam to make it red.

Only should they kiss,
A bruise...to make it well.
And linger in the rocking-chair,
With stories...yet to tell.

Only should they play the game,
The game of Hide-n-Seek.
As tiny hands are folded,
On eyes that dare not peek.

Ever should they council,
On what a parent bids.
For Grandmas...shouldn't have to work,
But play with kids.
