Easter Sunday

The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. John 1:5

It may not be so visible, but the sun is there. Remember this view? Yeah, this is the same lookout... Every year on Easter Sunday we round up the troops, and head up at a ridiculously early time to watch the sunrise. Sometimes you'll get something fabulous like this, then other years, it'll turn out a little less ... sunrisey. Suddenly someone looks at their watch, and realises the sun's long up. The point is not, however, to see the most spectacular sunrise God ever created, this tradition revolves around seeing a new day arrive, going from the dark into the light. As we drive up the mountain, the sun begins to lighten, clouds separate from sky, colour pours into whatever sky there may be - whether it's blue, pink, orange, grey, white, or some combination of them all. The stars fade, the darkness ebbs back, and the unstoppable light takes over. We reach the top, jump out of the cars and either immediately freeze and wish we'd worn another 5 layers of wool and down, or wonder why it's so toasty. Today it was the former. We drink tea, discuss what Easter means, eat biscuits and chocolate, take photos, and generally have much fun.

It doesn't matter how rubbish (and cold) the sunrise is (today there was sleet, that's a first), with good company and magnificent significance it can't fail to be enjoyable.
