Riksgränsen

Our roadtrips first day (yesterday) was fully spent driving approx. 700kms to Riksgränsen and Narvik area. Riksgränsen is a swedish offpiste/freeride oriented ski resort near the border between Sweden and Norway, it's name actually also means the border of the empire.

The day started very cloudy and windy and we decided to use the first day skiing from the lifts to get a better image of the snow conditions and get used to skis again. Due the weather only the lower lifts were open and we spent the first half of the day skiing marked offpiste routes from the lifts.

Afternoon the sky started to turn blue and the top lifts opened, not surprised we were among the first to rush to the top and start half hour climb to the nearest top Nordalsfjellet. The peak has several demanding bowls and couloirs and it is also every year the place where scandinavian freeride championships are held.

We skied quite standard route down and really enjoyed the place. A good start for our trip..
