A Collector of Oddities

North Leith railway

This is part of the North Leith railway. Or at least it was. This is roughly near where Craigleith station used to be. Along the path you can still see the remains of old platforms. The line began running in 1879 and continued until it was closed in 1962. There used to be a fairly extensive train network in Edinburgh. It outlived the tram system which was decommisioned in 1956.

Ironically, Edinburgh Council recently threatened to build a tramline on the old NLR which is now a pleasant, tree-lined cyclepath but since they have so far failed to build a tramline anywhere it appears to be safe for the time being.

Incidentally, my friend here is neither very small nor very far away but in fact riding a recumbent bike.
