Kite Flight

Kite surfer soaring above the waves in Belhaven Bay, East Lothian, with the Bass Rock in the background. After a beautiful afternoon photographing along the beach in search of the elusive "common" tern, this guy provided a spectacle. He's a real world-class expert, as demonstrated today in the strong winds as he sped up & down the beach and far out off-shore. This invert was beautifully executed and timed, a privilege to witness.

I enjoyed taking pictures of gannets, terns, plovers, cormorants, eider, and just missing a peregrine off the esplanade... but I was really after tern shots. My tern pictures so far are too distant and there are no terns in the council-designated tern breeding grounds. Maybe they got it wrong, or maybe it's too early, but I'll expect to get better tern shots through the summer.

It's been a lovely day to top off a lovely holiday weekend.

After yesterday's uncomfortable influx, today's sharp easterly wind kept the beach clear of holidaymakers. So, thankfully, no idiots throwing stones at the swans.
