Two bridges ...

Today it's commemoration day. We've a national silent moment on eight o'çlock tonight. Our thoughts are with those who died in World War II.

The city of Rotterdam was badly hit and destroyed in World War II. Before the final bombardment there were fierce combats on different places in the city. Also here, around the Koninginnebrug en De Hef. Brave soldiers tried to the end to defend these strategic important connections between the north- and the south bank of the Nieuwe Maas. We all know how this battle turned into a disaster.

During lunch break I pictured the two bridges, on the 66th commemoration day since our liberation in 1945.
