The Wound Man

The Wound Man, a medical diagram from the Middle Ages intended to instruct medieval physicians in the type of injuries they could expect to be treating. The Wound Man's been skewered, hacked and bludgeoned with just about every implement imaginable, and is somehow still standing, though looking understandably downcast.

It's hard not to feel like old Woundy when life suddenly decides to take its hatchet to you unexpectedly. Today, for instance, has been a spectacularly bad, frankly upsetting day. A couple of my good friends have had terrible developments in their lives over the past twenty-four hours, and I feel utterly devastated for them, to the point where I'm struggling for words to express my anger and sorrow.

There's just no avoiding the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, and the best that anyone can do is nurse the injuries. And then shamble on into the next day with the same sad resignation as the Wound Man, hoping that the damage will be quick to heal.
