Raindrops

This is a leaf from the beautiful Acer palmatum. It produces this stunning dark red colour that lasts right until autumn.

But the key thing about this picture is that the leaf is covered in raindrops. We have had no rain for about two weeks, and although the co-incidence of the glorious sunshine with various holidays has been great, the garden and the pond have desperately need rain.

We were rewarded last night with a noisy thunderstorm but it didn't last long and we were pleased to see the rain return late this afternoon. It would be good if there was enough to give the ground a good soaking, top up the pond and replenish the water butt.
