Clare's Symi

Second Time Lucky!

The flotilla mentioned in my Blip yesterday left at lunch time today but then returned to spend another night in Symi. This time, their arrival and my walking to work coincided perfectly and I was able to get several shots of them coming in.

The harbour looked absolutely chaotic with yachts all over the place, some moving very quickly, cutting their way through and others just floating around waiting for their turn to come in and moor. The harbour police were lined up ready to register all the yachts' details and on the harbour wall were the mooring men, shouting instructions at the crews, while the members of the crews shouted at each other. As I say, it looked like chaos but I'm sure there was some order to it.

This evening the Dimos (town council) threw a party for the members of the flotilla, with displays of traditional Greek dancing, music and souvlaki (Greek kebabs). Apparently, they will be leaving again tomorrow at about 11am and this time will not be coming back as the regatta is returning to Turkey for its last few races. I hope the international crews have enjoyed Symi and that maybe some will make it destination for future holidays, be they yachting or land based.
