It's A Wrap: Dublin Prepares For HRH

Took a wee drive downtown to see what the city looked like during the largest security measures in the history of the state. Quite peaceful really, though there were still people around. Certain areas cordoned off, such as Parnell Square, but mostly the barricades were simply stacked, ready to be moved in place. Most city centre manhole covers had yellow X's sprayed across them and parking meters were uniformed in blue (as above) to indicate that they'd been checked for suspicious devices and thereafter hooded and taped.

The building in the picture is the famous Custom House, part of our Imperial legacy; designed by Gandon in the 18th Century to collect custom duties, it was burned down by the IRA in 1921 (along with countless historical records) in an attempt to disrupt British rule.

It's the kind of building Christo would have chosen to wrap.
