Bundesgartenschau 2011
or the Federal Garden Show 2011. It has a rather unromantic acronym in BUGA (no, I don't know how they came up with that but I'll let it slide again). Pronounced Boo-gah rather than Buh-ger.
A trip to Koblenz today for this. Went by train - which is to be recommended to you if you like imposing castles overlooking rivers. Or, indeed, if you want to watch a helicopter spraying a very steep vineyard. It's not a long journey on the train - 90 minutes from here and that's with it stopping every 10.
The flower show is not one that will threaten Chelsea anytime soon. However - it has a Cable Car. A brand new thing to sweep you up from near the Deutsche Eck (that's where the Mosel joins the Rhein) and takes you up to Festung Ehrenbreitstein (which is a big fort thing). That was really good fun - I like cable cars even though I'm not great with the idea of falling.
There were many flowers, I thought these were the prettiest.
If you go, do round off your day with a glass of Sekt in the Grand Cafe in the Schloss. That's really nice.
