Smiddyseat Chain Radar Station

This large structure is the bunker housing the main transmitter equipment for the old WW2 radar at Hillhead, Smiddyseat, looking out to sea over the Moray Firth. The structure is a brick building surrounded by a massive concrete roof and blast walls. The large hole has been made by the local farmer so as to turn the building into a store. The site was a link in the chain of many stations that protected the whole of the East coast of the United Kingdom during the second world war.
