Tramway

Or at least the way it is supposed to go. Down the side of Murrayfield Stadium and towards the newly built bridge over the railway line that connects to what was the guided bus-way. Just another of the disconnected bits of the Edinburgh tram line. With rumours that the project will be further curtailed, or even scrapped altogether, one has to wonder just how it went so badly wrong. Did the contractors deliberately underestimate their bid? Or was the council's tram-building company guilty of making sure the proposed project cost lower to make sure it got started in the first place? I think the latest is that it will just go from the airport to Princes Street, or worse still Haymarket - so none of the work done on Leith Walk would ever be used. Given just how disruptive the works were down there, surely that wouldn't be an acceptable proposal. Clearly it's a bit simplistic, and with the benefit of hindsight, but why didn't the project start at one end (most likely the airport, as that's where the depot is) and make its way into town and on down to Leith?
Given what it's all cost, wonder how long the bus network could have been run with zero fares for the same money?
