Doing Things Differently

End Of The (Holi)Day

Today was warm and sunny and our last day in St Abbs. We spent as much time as we could outside on the nature reserve. We walked from the house, along the road to the lighthouse and then tracked back along the tops of the coves, stopping for lunch on the way. There were too many Guillemot, Razorbill, Shag and Gannet to count, both on the cliffs and in the very blue sea. Later we sat for a while at Petticoe Wick and then on the shores of loch, before heading back to the house.

On the road I saw a battered Red Admiral, my 15th butterfly species of the year.

After we got back, we stayed in the garden, eating our evening meal whilst Swallows and House Martins swooped overhead. House Sparrows were also feeding their young on the garden fence.

As dusk drew in we went for another walk along the reserve's road, nearly to Petticoe Wick. We saw Hares boxing, two pairs of Roe Deer, bats dancing and heard a Tawny Owl. As we turned a corner, we were met by this sunset. What a great way to end a fabulous holiday!!
