Mouldy wine

The day started badly. We drove to Neusiedl-am-See and succeeded in buying train tickets to Bratislava the next day for 3 euros each (special deal with the Neusiedlersee Card given to tourists). We were heading to the nearby hills for a picnic when I collided with the kerb, which broke the tyre wall.

Our hired VW Polo didn't have a spare tyre so we had to get it transported back to Neusiedl and wait while the garage obtained another tyre to fit. Fortunately most of the people we had to deal with spoke good English and were very helpful. It was also fortunate that we didn't have any definite plans for the day so the loss of four hours didn't really matter.

We ended the day in Eisenstadt, which is a lovely old town where Josef Haydn lived when he worked for the Esterhazy family, whose grand house, Schloss Esterhazy, is just up the road from where he lived.

We got a free tour of the wine cellars with our Nesiedlersee Cards too. These bottles look really old but I think the labels said 1991.
