Bratislava Castle

Reflected in my sunglasses, in case you hadn't worked it out.

Bratislava and Vienna are the two European capital cities closest to each other, although now in different countries (Austria and Slovakia).

Although both are in the euro, prices were noticeably lower in Bratislava than in Vienna. We had a really enjoyable day roaming around the compact old town and up to the castle. This was the summer home of Empress Maria Teresa, ruler of the Habsburg Empire in the 18th century. We saw the same symbols of Habsburg imperialism at the castle that we had seen earlier at Schloss Schonbrunn and the Hofburg Palace in Vienna.

There a set from the day on Flickr here.
