Still Standing

Just.

The old gnarly tree that stands only a few feet away from this took a real battering in the recent winds and numerous large boughs and branches were shed. All that's left is a big leafy stump surrounded by broken bits of old tree. This eight foot monolith escaped any damage though.

It was a bit of a mystery back when I shot this before and a trawl thorough various pages on the internet earlier hasn't shed any more light on it. It has 'disputed antiquity' apparently. I was trying to find a link to the story that said the skeleton of a horse was discovered nearby, and that it would have at one time stood in some Royal Gardens linked to the tower up on the hill there, but I can't find that either.

Anyhow, the stone's still standing, it's still mostly ignored and it's still a mystery.

EDIT: Thanks to darapara, this page has some more info on it than I found earlier. It mentions bones and a horse but not horse bones. Will keep trawling. Thanks Dara.
