The Life Of Ponty Cyclops

Hogging The Blip

Did I .. or did I not promise you hedgehogs earlier this week!

Finally he/she makes an appearance. The light wasn't great and he/she stayed at the back of the garden, but there are now plenty of hoggy treats other there for her/him. Mealworms, dog food, raisins and peanuts! Hopefully I will get some better pictures to blip whilst I am off shift again.

It's been quite a day really!

Had a text from Dawn saying there were no less than FIVE Greater Spotted Woodpeckers in the garden at breakfast this morning. Two adult birds and three youngsters. Frustratingly I was in work and I had brought the camera trap back in. It is well stocked out there, so hopefully they will stick around. The female made a fleeting visit whilst we were having tea.

The garden was full of baby Blue Tits when we got home. No less that twelve youngsters feeding on the fat cakes and fat balls out there. The goldfinches popped in to add yet more colour!

In work, the lack of Greater Spotted Woodpecker action was somewhat made up by the Green Woodpecker getting ants for her young, which were calling from a tree right outside the lab window. There are also a pair or Garden Warblers nesting around there, as well as Goldcrests farming the spiders in the windows of the lab!

Quite a day really. Springwatch may have just ended .. but I still get it for real just about everyday here in South Wales!
