Jake's Journal

the largest second hand book shop in Scotland

Leakey's bookshop - once a Gaelic church, now a mini-metropolis of paper-back skyscrapers under a mezzanine café.

This is where I spent my whole day, reading The Old Man and the Sea, which has since established itself as one of my favourite short novels. The choice of books in Leakey's is great although they can be a tad over-priced (any more than £1.50 for a second hand book is too much in my view).

The coffee is great, though, and the BLT I had was good enough to make a pig's mouth water. I can imagine it is at it's best in mid-winter when they get that huge log burning fire crackling away. Perfect for wasting away a few afternoons.
