Abrolhos Islands Day 10

This is what it was all about. The pearls produced on the island are from a local oyster. The species is capable of living in water temperatures which range from warm to cool and, as they are rare, are bred in a hatchery on the mainline. These pearls are held by Murray, who breeds the oysters but the pearls themselves are produced by his wife, Pia. The actual farm is between a reef, called Half Moon Reef, and an island, known locally as Long Island. Between them the water is sheltered from most severe weather conditions.
