The Garden of the Midnight Sun

This is a sunny sunny midsummer midday in my parents' garden in the centre of Cambridge. Pleasantly shady, ain't it?

The tree (a beech) can be seen from all over Newnham although it was years before I discovered it was actually in our garden. In fact you can find it marked on the map of Cambridge for 1820 - so it was clearly enormous then too,

We estimate it was planted about the same time as Charles 1 lost his head. Its still going - sort of - strong. Which is more than can be said for King Charles 1
