Crossgates Ramblers outside the Stonehouse Bakery

Our final stop on our walk today - the bakery! When we arrived a large group of `silver' bikers were finishing off their tea and cake inside and out (the premises are very small). Though we did manage to find a table for our warmed through orange cake and ice-cream - mmmm delicious, before fifteen walkers and a dog arrived. It turned out that they were a walking group from Crossgates near Leeds and I promised them their photo on blipfoto.

It was supposed to be an easier walking day today (and it was), but I did end up marching us back and forwards (a bit like the Grand Old Duke of York) along Danby Rigg, which is the hill just above our cottage. Today our route took us past Danby Castle, down to Duck Bridge (a rather splendid example of a packhorse bridge) and then to the Moors Visitors Centre, where we had lunch.

We may not go to the pub this evening as we are now stocked up with goodies from the bakery and we have our complementary bottle of wine from our hosts at Pear Tree House.

I still need to work out how far we walked today.

p.s. the bakery is simply the best, our local bakery is good but this one is out of this world. We had our eye on the house next door at one time but it was simply too far to commute to work. Probably better than we don't live next door (and this cottage is at least a two mile walk away so at least there is a little time to work off some calories.)
