Tow Wire

This picture shows a polished piece of our tow wire, which is in use on my desk as a 'Presse Papier' preventing all the paperwork blown away. This is a 6 x 36 + Steel Wire Core construction. This means the wire is constructed of six steel wires consisting of 36 small wires. Actual Breaking Load of this wire is 488 ton. On tugs they often say that a womans hair is stronger than a tow wire. But after all these years at sea, I still wonder if this is true.
