Summer chafer

This beetle crawled around in the lawn, trying to find a hole to burrow into to lay its eggs in, until it got attacked by ants.

They are quite common round here on a summer's evening, buzzing around the tops of hedges and bushes. They look fearsome but are, as Douglas Adams put it, 'mostly harmless'.
