Sonshine

This evening Gary, Landon and I met up with Loren midweek through his Sonshine Ministries Houseboat Camp. Tonight was their 'dryland' part of the trip where the parents can join our campers midweek for worship time and to see skits that the kids prepared. It was really great to catch a glimpse of Loren, since we've missed him (he left Sunday). This is our church's first time participating in this and his first Junior High camp experience. The skits were entertaining but my favorite part of the night was hearing a speaker tell of the story about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. It is a wonderful Bible story about faith and not conforming to the pattern of this world...which is so tempting to this teen and tween age of wanting to fit in. He used his personal story to reach the kids and that's what always hits home. He shared how he just didn't fit in as a teen, and how it is so unimportant to fit in especially if it goes against your values and beliefs. It was also a story of learning to love the person God made you to be, staying true to that and also about getting to know Him better. We enjoyed the night while Landon enjoyed spending time with his friend Cody and trying to entertain the audience at this event. :) It was hard to say goodbye to Loren again but we knew that in just two days he would come back to us with wonderful stories to share.
