Up on Burrough Hill

Out with walking friends in east Leicestershire near Melton Mowbray - Stilton cheese country, and the high spot of today's walk was a climb up Burrough Hill (690ft). From the toposcope you can see tremendous views all around. The hill is crowned by an Iron Age fort and students from Leicester University and the local archaeological society are excavating the site. After a great pub lunch at the appropriately named Stilton Cheese in Somerby we visit a nearby dairy farm to learn about milk production. The cows seem to have a good life out on the pastures and we see them in the milking parlour. Apparently 50 percent of the milk used in this country is imported while some of our own dairy farmers are going out of business, which doesn't make sense. The milk from this farm is used to produce Stilton cheese.

For the record: 24C, sunny periods.
