You Take the High Road

[backblip]

Loch Lomond as viewed just after take off this morning, bound for Sanford, Florida, and not Arbroath as previously mentioned.

A slightly delayed take-off and a longish 9 hour flight had us arriving mid afternoon on July the 4th in the US. Our experiences of arriving previously in the US (wife and daughter taken off for questioning by immigration in Newark last year) and the combination of it being July 4th, when everyone working seemed to want to be elsewhere, and the heightened terrorism threat it seemed a very jittery experience going through passport control. When Euan was asked when his birthday was and how old he was had me panicking and barely able to remember my own. We thought Heather was going to faint at one point as she'd gotten herself so wound up.

Hired car collection was very much less strenuous with a quick swatch at our paperwork then a casual point out into the car park with a "yeah.. just pick anything you like down that line. The keys are in them already." An hour and bit drive later (with only two unscheduled detours on pretty quiet highways) we were at the resort totally knackered but ready to party. The party involved us watching the New York fireworks display on an old CRT TV in the pool bar whilst munching a burger and fries off plastic plates with plastic knives and forks. Back to apartment by 10pm (with our body clocks telling us it was 3am on Tuesday) for a much needed sleep. We know how to party so we do.

Well, that'll be us in Florida for a bit then.
