An ordinary life....

Cyrano de Bergerac

As old Sod's Law dictates, I took lots of blippable pics today but when you visit the French market town of Bergerac, there's really only one pic that can be blipped and that's old Cyrano himself.

The town contains two statues of Cyrano de Bergerac, subject of the famous play of the same name by Edmond Rostand, though the actual Cyrano never lived in Bergerac.

An old stone statue stands on Place de la Myrpe, facing Place du Docteur Cayla. A newer statue (this one) is unusual in that it is painted in colour and stands on a stainless steel pedestal. It has been erected on Place Pelissiere.

We had a lovely lunch of pizza in a little street cafe about 10 paces from here and enjoyed watching some live dualling action at the base of the statue when Cyrano Street Theatre arrived and drew their swords. Great fun :))

The other half of our holiday party went to Bordeaux and arrived back with a housewarming gift of a beautiful set of coffee cups and saucers from my favourite French shop, Maison du Monde! Thank you E & K, they are lovely and we are so touched by the gesture! :))

Now about to go and make dinner. Afterwards we will settle outside in the candlelight with a lovely glass of rose and some minature doughnuts and watch the firework display in the nearby town of Chalais, as the 13th July ends and Bastille Day begins.

Bliss :))))
