Big White Bird

Yesterday we spotted this bird in the wetlands in the park. I think it's an egret, but maybe some blipper who knows more about birds can give me a definite ID. We couldn't get close enough to get a clear picture, so today we went back, hoping for a close up. We ran into two women walking a dog who were excited about the two big white birds they had just seen. We walked over to where they had seen them, but only found one, and this was as close as we got. Later in our walk, we circled around by the wetland again. Still no luck! Then Mr. SB hollered, "Skip, look up!" and there it was soaring overhead. What do you think? Is it an egret of some kind?
