Bluebird at Breakfast

Yesterday afternoon I put water in the bird bath outside our kitchen in Tamworth, and this morning birds came to it for about twenty minutes--mainly Eastern Bluebirds (Sialia sialis).

This is a juvenile bluebird, the only bird I saw in the tree above the bath. (The shot is through the kitchen window--hence a bit less clear than I'd like.) His/her breast is speckled, but the overall shape and the blue on the tail is distinctive. There were a couple of adults, but they were less photogenic.

Last summer we were here for a week and there were almost no birds around (no idea why). The view from the kitchen is less dramatic than that from yesterday, but still wonderful.

Later in the morning we headed back to Northampton.
