Cardinal Singing

A male Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) quite high above our neighbor's back yard. This is a high-contrast, backlit blip, but it's rare to see the bill so nicely lit. There was a distant response to his repeated song.

Cardinals are very much at home in our neighbor, and we hear them from early spring. Their varied, piercing songs consist of separate notes and are not especially melodious.

I've just started a series of my blips of North American birds--I'll try to add to it in the next few days.
