Royal Crescent

This is part of the Royal Crescent in Bath. It is world famous and has been used as the setting for several films. It was built in The Georgian era when all the gentry and royalty would travel to Bath to 'take the waters', it was the social capital of England at the time.

I have to confess that I was slightly disappointed by it - I was expecting it to be grander than it appears - although it is still a major architectural triumph. Apparently it is the law that all houses built in Bath have to be built from local, Bath stone, and it is a wonderful warm, mellow colour I must say. it makes for a very lovely city.
