Heading home

The day was spent travelling back north towards the ferry port. It was a 'noir' day on the French motorway so we listened carefully to the motorway radio station for news of 'accordions' (pulses) and 'bouchons' (jams) on our route back. Thankfully, all the problems were for south-bound traffic.

Our plan was to spend the afternoon in the nature reserve on the Orne estuary. We hadn't factored in the rain. We had a look round the visitors' centre and found out about the bird life on the reserve and the evolution of sand dunes.

The rain eventually stopped and we managed to spot about ten little egrets in the marshes ( Egretta garzetta). It was a bit too soggy to visit the hides. The light house is at Ouistreham port on the other side of the estuary.

We were one of the early cars on the ferry and managed to fit in a coffee before heading to bed in our little cabin.
