#Riotcleanup

It's a symbolic gesture in the end. There were a couple of hundred local people in my neighbourhood alone who followed the hashtag and turned up with our brooms and binbags.

We were too late. Hackney council staff (you know, the ones with the fat public sector pensions...) were on it from dawn.

Once we'd shown the beleaguered shopkeepers of Clarence Road our respect, dozens got on train to Clapham where the clean-up task is immense.

Spoke to locals who had a pretty lucid grasp of the big picture. Poverty, unaccountable police, societal abandonment, thuggery, and decisionmakers who - just - don't - get it. All Hackney feels like it's on the verge of tears.

Cameron is home. He couldn't be less relevant today.
