Wadi Rum

Jordan holiday, day 6
We left Petra, visiting little Petra on the way, then headed down the highway to Wadi Rum for our night camping. These are some others from our tour group having a camel ride (I declined!)

Wadi Rum is best known for its connection with Lawrence of Arabia who massed his troops here before driving the Turks from Aqaba in 1917-18. One of the rock formations is known as the seven pillars of wisdom after T E Lawrence's book of that name.

We climbed a sand dune (much more difficult than it sounds) to watch the sun setting, then ate a very nice meal that arrived by car (they pretended it had been cooking under the sand all day haha). The tents were basic but OK, fabric dividers and very creaky old iron framed beds. I hoped for a good view of the stars (got up in the small hours to look) but there was too much light in the sky.
