First of the season

I know that the Woodland Trust have been collecting images of the first ripe blackberries that people could find, but here are the first ones I have seen.

They are not of the best quality and would not make a good pot of jam, even a really small one, but they are impressive all the same.

The reason that they are so impressive is that it shows how the brambles adapt to the environment that they are in . These specific ones were growing against a wall in about 2" of dirt and still managed to bear fruit.

I know that for a lot of us they are a pain because we cannot get them out of our gardens or borders precisely because they are so resilient, but you really have to be at least somewhat impressed that no matter what, they find a way to survive
