Lumberjacking

Last year we took the top off a tree that was growing in a corner of the garden and was getting rather unwieldy. Since then it has sprouted lots of shoots so today we cut it down. In the picture one branch has already gone and the other just needs a final tweak. The real task was not the main trunks but all the smaller shoots about an inch thick which we cut off with secateurs or saw if too big. Removing them to a hidden part of our small wood reminded me of taking Birnan Wood to Dunsinane and beyond.
